Harry Potter--Dumbledore?

Does anyone else think Ian McKellen (Gandalf in the Lord of The Rings trilogy) should play Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies? I don't think either Dumbledore has gotten it right: the first was too calm all the time and the second is too harsh. With Gandalf Ian McKellen does the whole nice, calm wizard well but he is also good at doing the whole 'all powerful' wizard I'm mad about this' thing. I just think he would be perfect for the part. Also, does anyone know if McKellen was offered the part of Dumbledore but didn't take it because he was filming the Lord of the Rings (because he is British...)?
